Nearly 30.8% of the population in Latin America and the Caribbean was below the poverty line.
If we talk about closer data, the risk of poverty in Spain has increased in 2021 to 27.8%, almost one point more than the rate reflected in 2020 with 27%, according to the latest report published by the INE.
Having a job does not guarantee the ability to escape poverty.
Furthermore, it is essential to make efficient use of resources, not only in production, but also when it comes to consuming them, and to promote economic growth without endangering the environment.

What does Sustainable Development Goal 8 promote?
SDG 8 promotes sustainable economic growth and decent work for all.
To achieve this goal, economic growth per person needs to be tailored to the specificities of each territory. GDP growth should be at least 7% per year in the least developed countries.
However, it is necessary to implement policies that encourage entrepreneurship, innovation and sustainability in order to create decent jobs.
Why is SDG 8 important?
According to data from the United Nations (UN), over the past 25 years, the number of workers living in extreme poverty has declined dramatically, despite the impact of the 2008 economic crisis and global recessions.
In developing countries, the middle class now accounts for more than 34% of total employment, a figure that almost tripled between 1991 and 2015.
However, while the global economy continues to recover, we are witnessing slower growth, rising inequalities and a jobs deficit.
For this reason, fostering policies that stimulate entrepreneurship and job creation is crucial to this end, as is taking effective measures to eliminate forced labour, slavery and human trafficking. With these objectives in mind, the goal is to create decent and productive jobs for the entire population by 2030.
How we implement SDG8 targets at SolarMente
At SolarMente we contribute to SDG 8 by creating the enabling conditions that allow people to have quality jobs. We seek to make this growth inclusive, creating decent jobs for all and improving people’s standard of living.
Following the roadmap provided by the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), we do our bit in achieving the following specific targets of Goal 8:
-
Achieve higher levels of economic productivity through diversification, technological upgrading and innovation, including through a focus on high value-added and labour-intensive sectors.
-
Promote policies aimed at the development of productive activities, decent job creation, entrepreneurship and creativity. Encourage the formalisation and growth of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, including through access to financial services.
-
By 2030, achieve full and productive employment. Decent work for all people and equal pay.
And this is how we do it in practice:
-
We democratise green (or clean) energy, offering you the option to create your own electricity, generate savings and be self-sustainable.
-
We make it easy to switch to photovoltaic self-consumption. Installing solar panels on your home is easier than it seems.
-
We prioritise the incorporation of local installers and services to form the value chain of the solar experience for customers like you.
-
We guarantee decent working conditions for our team.
-
We support local entrepreneurship.
SolarMente is committed to decent work and economic growth.
This is how we try to improve the world we live in. We promote economic growth, employment and decent, inclusive and sustainable work for all. We continue to implement measures and evolve to align with all the targets of this SDG.
Through the use of solar energy, we at SolarMente contribute to an energy model based on sustainability where we care for the environment by reducing our carbon footprint as much as possible.
