  1. Household Use: Suppose you have an LED bulb that consumes 10 watts and you leave it on for 5 hours a day. At the end of the day, it will have consumed 50 watt-hours or 0.05 kilowatt-hours (kWh). If this bulb is used every day of the month, it will consume approximately 1.5 kWh in that month.
  2. Industrial use: Consider a factory with machines consuming a total of 200 kilowatts. If these machines operate for 8 hours a day, the daily consumption will be 1600 kWh. This is crucial for calculating the energy cost associated with production.
  3. Energy Production: A power plant that generates 2 gigawatts of electricity for one hour produces 2 gigawatt-hours (GWh). This number can help to understand the capacity of the plant to meet the electricity demand of a large region.
